Summer Abroad Credit for Designated (non-Yale) Programs

The Yale Summer Abroad Credit application is the process by which you can apply to earn general Yale credit for study abroad through a designated (non-Yale) program during the summer.
  • Before applying, review the application process, eligibility requirements, and deadlines on the Study Abroad website.
  • Research your study abroad program options.
  • Complete all required application materials. Retroactive applications for Yale credit for coursework completed abroad will not be accepted. You must apply before going abroad and by the relevant deadline. To apply, follow the instructions below.

The Summer Abroad Credit application period opens on December 15, 2015. All applications for Summer Abroad Credit will be reviewed after the March 1st deadline and decisions are generally made within 2 weeks.

Application Process for Designated (non-Yale) Programs

Applying for admission and general Yale credit for designated study abroad programs is a simultaneous two-step process:

  1. Apply for Yale credit and approval: To apply to earn general Yale credit for your participation in a designated program, click on the "Apply" button above and submit this application for credit by the appropriate deadline. Late applications for study abroad credit cannot be accepted. You do not need to have already been admitted to your program when you apply for Yale credit.

  2. Apply for Admission into Designated Program: You must apply directly to the university or program abroad you would like to attend. You can access the programs' applications directly from their websites. It is your responsibility to ensure all application materials are submitted to your desired program by the relevant deadline. Program application deadlines may be earlier or later than Yale’s application deadline.

International Summer Award (ISA): If you plan to use ISA funding for this program, you must be earning Yale credit. This means that you must complete both:

  • Summer Abroad Credit for Designated (non-Yale) Programs application by March 1st
  • International Summer Award application by May 1st

For more information, visit the ISA website.

Petition for Programs not on Yale's Designated List
