Program Description:

Yale Year or Term Abroad Petition for a Program Not on Yale's Designated List

The Study Abroad Office will consider petitions for a program not on Yale's designated list on a case-by-case basis. Before starting this petition, you must review the petition process on the Study Abroad website and meet with a study abroad adviser. Only after completing these steps should you begin the petition process as outlined below.

Note: If you are applying to a program that is listed on the Study Abroad website, please complete the Yale Year or Term Abroad (YTA) Program application.

Petition Process

Petitioning to study abroad through a program not on Yale's designated list is a simultaneous two-step process:

  1. Petition for Yale credit and approval: To petition to earn general Yale credit for a program not listed on Yale's designated list, click on the "Apply" button above and submit this petition by the appropriate deadline. Late petitions for study abroad credit cannot be accepted. You do not need to have already been admitted to your program when you petition for Yale credit.

  2. Apply for Admission into Program/University: You must apply directly to the university or program abroad you would like to attend. You can access the programs' applications directly from their websites. It is your responsibility to ensure all application materials are submitted to your desired program by the relevant deadline. Program application deadlines may be earlier or later than Yale’s petition deadline.

The YTA petition period opens on:

  • Spring 2015 term abroad: September 2, 2014
  • Fall 2015 or Full Year 2015-2016 term(s) abroad: January 12, 2016
