Program Description:

Yale Year or Term Abroad Petition for a Program Not on Yale's Designated List

The Study Abroad Office will consider petitions for a program not on Yale's designated list on a case-by-case basis. Before starting this petition, you must review the petition process on the Study Abroad website and meet with a Study Abroad Adviser. Only after completing these steps should you begin the petition process as outlined below.

Note: If you are applying to a program that is listed in the CIPE database, please complete the Yale Year or Term Abroad (YTA) Program application.

Petition Process

Petitioning to study abroad through a program not on Yale's designated list is a simultaneous two-step process:

  1. Application for Admission into Program/University: Apply directly to the university or program abroad that you would like to attend. You can access that application and deadline information from the program's website. Please note that program application deadlines may be earlier or later than the application to apply for Yale credit.

  2. Yale Petition for Credit: To petition to earn general Yale credit for your participation in a program not on Yale's designated list, click on the "Start Applying" button at the top of this page.

The YTA application period opens on:

  • Spring 2015 term abroad: September 2, 2014
  • Fall 2015 or Full Year 2015-2016 term(s) abroad: January 12, 2015
